Week - I have no idea (13?)

I thought that I would just do a post to explain about the Forum Leaders thing. Basically I have appointed five forum leaders to make my life a little bit more easier.

Aimee
She has Bubbles as her avatar. What more can you say? Aimee is in charge of General Chat. With General Chat it is important that we keep interesting conversations flowing. Aimee is in charge of that. Any ideas for new things in General Chat are to be sent to her or me. One thing about General Chat is that you should not bring up old topics (eg two weeks or more since last answer) unless you have something new to add. Random comments to bump up your post count are not needed.

Whiskersonkittens
In charge of Games and Quizzes (mainly because she tends to get annoyed if people create quizzes that she has already posted). Currently working on silly horoscopes and new ideas for the forum. With G & Q any topic that reaches 20 pages without relevent discussion in it (eg Word Association is merely a flow of words) will be deleted.

Georgiqt
Georgi is the forum leader for the Critic. With her strongly held opinions and tendency to debate she seemed the perfect choices. The Critic is for discussing but not creating movies, music, TV, the news and current affairs.

The Pieatron
With the coolest username in the forum (if I do say myself), our resident piemuncher has agreed to take over the running of the Creator. The Creator is for sharing anything artistic, literary or musical that you have created or for whether you would like to talk about the complexities of the arts themselves.

Mooseman!!
Mooseman is in charge of Science and Technology. This little forum has had a lot going on in it recently. Mooseman does his best to inform us of current scientific news and interesting facts.

I am in charge of the LoserPedia and the Traveller. LoserPedia has been discussed before, the Traveller is for discussing the world - be it through holidays or learning.

Natalia is vaguely forum leader for the Student sections - this is for self-education, or for exam times for you to tear your hair out in.

Remember, even if you are not a forum leader you have every right to post in any of the forums. The leaders are just there to encourage discussion and to keep the forums going - you are what makes up the forum.

If you are considering becoming a member then I (of course) would highly recommend it. It is for your own personal safety and the privacy of our members that we keep a number of our forums hidden.

So the usual mantra - post, invite, more posting and most of all, have fun!

Current member total: 45
Current no. of posts/topics: 4751/251
Average posts per day: 51.08
Average topics per day: 2.70
Users per day: 0.48
Newest member: Spectator
Highest posting member: Whiskersonkittens
User title of the week: Agneta - Swedish variant of Agnes - Greek hagnos meaning Chaste. Also a former member of Abba.
Mandatory Inspirational quotation: Especially for The Pieatron - Life... is like a grapefruit. It's orange and squishy, and has a few pips in it, and some folks have half a one for breakfast. Douglas Adams

Yay, ok, LoserPedia is going well - I'd like more articles, more discussions. Am trying to think of some more this week. Just think of things that you're interested in, or your sibling's interested in, or your parent, friend, enemy...
Make use of all the forums: not just Critic, Games and General Chat
Invite!
And I'm going to send out an email to you once a month (or weekly, haha) to remind you about LC.
I'm always in need of ideas as well.

Current member total: 26
Current no. of posts/topics: 2528/162
Average posts per day: 36.73
Average topics per day: 2.35
Users per day: 0.38
Newest member: Mooseman!!
Highest posting member: Whiskersonkittens
User title of the week: Aloysius (al-00-ish-us) - Provencal form of Louis - famous warrior
Mandatory Inspirational quotation: Always listen to experts.
Started on the LoserPedia - basically an encylcopedia of why everyone and everything can have the qualities of a loser. An outlet for negativity, because frankly the world needs happier people. Read the basic guidelines - many things go, and please do your best with spelling and grammar etc. - try typing entries into Word before posting them if you know that it is not your strong point. For inspiration, Wikipedia (the online encylcopedia) describes a loser as: 'A loser could be a person with little or no ambition for the future, or someone who is always at loss, has accomplished little relative to their stage in life or simply "has no life.' Well obviously, if we're doing this we have no life. But we should know that already. I'm not asking for a thesis on why doing something makes someone a loser, just a couple of sentences will do. Then the rest of us can add to it.

So do your best, invite and post.

Current member total: 24
Current no. of posts/topics: 1985/127
Average posts per day: 41.37
Average topics per day: 2.65
Users per day: 0.50
Newest member: madman
Highest posting member: Whiskersonkittens
User title of the week: Amos - to carry, a minor prophet in the Old Testament
Mandatory Inspirational quotation: If at first you don't succeed, find out if the loser gets anything.
Once again, I would love to know if people read this so comments are really appreciated.

The usual:
Invite people
Create topics (esp. Critic, Creator, Scientist, Learner etc.)
Remember that Word Association will be deleted when it reaches 30 pages

This week:
I want to know what you want from the site. Do you want contests, do you want more forums, less forums, more topics? What do you want topics on? How do you spend your time? Do you want LC to be a place where you can relax or do you want it to be somewhere where you are challenged?

Feedback will be appreciated GREATLY. I will start a topic in General Chat soon.

Keep posting, the forums are pretty stagnant at the moment.

Current member total: 24
Current no. of posts/topics: 1845/117
Average posts per day: 46.37
Average topics per day: 2.94
Users per day: 0.60
Newest member: madman
Highest posting member: Whiskersonkittens
User title of the week: Bruno - from German - brown.
Mandatory Inspirational quotation: The person who makes a success of living is the one who see his goal steadily and aims for it unswervingly.

First things first - I would love to know if people read this and take what I say on board. So either comment on this post, or on the thread in the forum. I don't see much point in doing this if no one reads it. It doesn't have to be a long post - just 'read'.

I know everyone's been fairly busy - this being first week of school etc. but if you're not going to be on the forum then can you at least recommend it to other people. I do have places that I am going to mention the forum (other forums I go to) but only when we're really up and running and active.

If you can post I would like some more input in the forums that aren't the Games forum basically. Those of you who only post in the Word Association thread there is one thing you should be warned about (and this will happen for any thread that doesn't really have an ongoing conversation within it - I can't think of any others that fall into that category at the moment) and that is that I will delete the thread when it reaches 30 pages and you will lose any posts you made in that thread. You are, of course, welcome to start another Word Association thread after the first has been deleted, but that will follow the same pattern.

Also, skins. There is a choice of three different skins for the forum - SubSilver (default), Nosebleed and Igloo. You can change your forum skin by going into your profile. Personally, I use Nosebleed. Subsilver is what comes with every phpBB forum and I see it as fairly boring. I did set the forum skin as Nosebleed as default a while ago, but people had log in problems so I changed it back. Just because SubSilver is default that doesn't mean you have to use it.

I don't think that I have any other things at the moment. I'll be working on the forum descriptions this week, so people can understand what topics are relevant to each forum.

Current member total: 23
Current no. of posts/topics: 1696/100
Average posts per day: 53.19
Average topics per day: 3.14
Users per day: 0.72
Newest member: Kallista
Highest posting member: Whiskersonkittens
User title of the week: Adah - from Hebrew for 'brightness'. Not to be confused with Ada, which is from German adal meaning noble.
Mandatory Inspirational quotation: Without friends no one would choose to live, though he had all other goods.
Almost week 4 of LC

I think I am going to start writing the blog on a Friday, so that it's an easy date to remember and I tend to be less busy on Friday evenings.

It seems to be going well, just a couple of things this evening (esp. something that has cropped up today):
1) INVITE! People seem to be back at school, college, work etc. now so there are plenty of people around that you think may be suited to the forum. It's a fairly easy site name to remember (.co.uk please) so pass on the love!

2) Please read the site rules, they are stickied in General Chat.

3) These last few weeks I've really worked out what I want the site to be like. I want it to be comfortable, welcoming. Somewhere that when people join they can really feel at home. Therefore (and I may end up sounding like a prude, or frigid or whatever - I don't care), I don't feel comfortable with threads entirely on sexual topics. I don't mind so much if it comes into a topic (some of you think like that) that started off on something completely different. Some forums condemn off-topicness - I don't care if you start off talking about say Mobile Phones and end up on Cheese. If someone wants to put it back on topic again that's fine, meandering is fun. Note - I am still working out what I want this forum to be like, things may change and this is one of them.

If in doubt about posting a topic - just think- would you be comfortable posting this in front of your parents or your grand-parents or a teacher and similar. It doesn't have to be dull-as-dishwater, sensible discussions. My parents had a couple of conditions about me making this forum, and this was one of them.

4) I also want to commend posters for creating some interesting threads this week - keep going. I'd particularly like more in Creator , Traveller, Student and Scientist sections.

Finally, people may be working hard or getting back into working at the moment and LC should be somewhere where you can have fun, share your opinions, relax and feel comfortable.

Current member total: 23
Current no. of posts/topics: 1415/84
Average posts per day: 56.87
Average topics per day: 3.38
Users per day: 0.92
Newest member: Kallista
Highest posting member: Whiskersonkittens
User title of the week: Ambrose - from Greek Ambrosios meaning 'immortal'
Mandatory Inspirational quotation: There are three things that will endure--faith, hope, and love--and the greatest of these is love.
